Love & Stuff

Shortly after her mother’s death, at just shy of 50, filmmaker and Peabody Award winner, Judith Helfand, becomes a “new old” mother overnight to a newborn.

She's pushed to deal with her stuff: 63 boxes of her parent's heirlooms overwhelming her office-turned-future-baby's room, the weight her mother had begged her to lose, and the reality of being a half century older than her daughter. LOVE & STUFF explores the transformative power of parenting, our complex attachment to “stuff” and what it is we really need to leave our children.

Working on the project

As Assistant Editor I organized and tracked over 30 years worth of verité footage, screened and created spreadsheets that corresponded to markers in premier summarizing notable content organized by acts, themes, characters, events, and objects. I ingested and synced footage, made selects and cutdowns, and pulled SFX and music for scenes.

Love & Stuff premiered at the 2020 Hot Docs Film Festival and was broadcasted on POV — directed by award-winning filmmakers, Judith Helfand and David Cohen.
